Annie Woodford

project funding 2006

Annie Woodford studied ceramics and glass at Middlesex Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art where she was awarded a travel scholarship. Fascinated by the tenuous connection between past, present and future, she makes objects and installations using porcelain and other forms of ceramic, often incorporating other materials before or after firing.

She is profiled in the forthcoming book ‘Breaking the Mould’ (New Approaches to Ceramics) published by Black Dog Publishing, which examines ceramic artists who are working at the cutting edge of the discipline.

With funding from the Juliet Gomperts trust she travelled to Iceland and undertook a research project entitled ‘Beyond the Surface of Things’.

New works have been initiated from the research trip. These include collections of data, drawings etc housed in archival boxes, ceramic forms contained in glass museum jars and etchings and prints. Larger scale pieces are being finalised and with the use of light will be created into translucent, ethereal structures.
